If we don't consider keyboard shortcuts, almost all menu selection and graphical direct manipulation are done with the mouse and its left button. The right mouse button is used to abort or invoke a right-click menu.
To avoid ambiguity and confusion later, 3 basic mouse operations are defined here:
Clicking: Position the cursor on an object (icon or menu entry) and, without moving the mouse, depress and immediately release the mouse button.
Pressing: Without moving the mouse, depress and hold down the mouse button.
Dragging: Position the cursor on an object, depress and hold down the mouse button, move the cursor to a new location, and then release the mouse button. If the dragging comes immediately after a pressing, just move the cursor to a new location and then release the mouse button.
The following notations related to clicking mouse buttons are used in this manual:
